Capitol Update: Session Begins!

Capitol Update: Session Begins!

150 150 Dr. Tom Oliverson

Dear Friends,

Another session of the Texas Legislature begins! I am looking forward to the work ahead of us. Thank you to all who came by to celebrate with our team at the open house. You can see Facebook photos from the event here.

Thank You to All
Thank you to everyone who supported my campaign and gave me their vote. I am tremendously grateful to have been re-elected to serve our community. During session, I am eager to focus on my campaign promises of rebuilding following Harvey, improving our healthcare system, and maintaining our freedoms.

An Exciting Start to Session
The 86th Legislative Session started on Tuesday, January 8th. Thank you to all who came to our open house in the new office. It was a pleasure to see and share the excitement with so many people from the district. A special thank you to Pastors Buntrock and Greiner for coming and blessing the office. After being sworn in, I am very excited to get to work on new legislation to help the people of District 130.

New Speaker, New Texas
I was very pleased to vote for and elect the honorable Dennis Bonnen to the position of Texas House speaker. In his acceptance speech, he emphasized his desire to prevent the Texas legislature from getting “caught up in things that don’t lead to real results” and his abilities as a “problem solver.” I believe he will do a wonderful job of prioritizing financing our school districts and providing property tax relief. I look forward to working with him and leaving Texas a better place than when we took office.

Governor Abbott and Lt. Governor Patrick’s Inauguration
I am thrilled to join the state of Texas in congratulating Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick on their inauguration on Tuesday. I am looking forward to working with them to make Texas a safe and wonderful place to live.
