Speaker of the House Dennis Bonnen today announced his nomination of Rep. Tom Oliverson for the State Legislative Leaders Foundation’s 15th Annual Emerging Legislative Leaders Program.
The Emerging Legislative Leaders Program is a national program designed specifically for the next generation of leaders in state legislatures. It is held every July on the campus of the University of Virginia, in partnership with the Darden School of Business.
“I am very honored by Speaker Bonnen’s decision to nominate me for this prestigious program,” Representative Oliverson said. “I am thankful for the trust he has placed in me as a legislator and as a leader within my district.”
Rep. Oliverson is in his second session in the Texas House. He serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Insurance Committee, as well as a member on the House Natural Resources Committee and House Calendars Committee.
“Representative Oliverson is an outstanding leader for the people in District 130, but he also reflects leadership abilities that can benefit our state in the years ahead,” said Speaker Bonnen. “I’m proud to submit his name as an emerging leader in the Texas House of Representatives.”
A total of 50 legislators nationwide will ultimately be selected to participate in the program. Nominees must follow a selection process that includes a detailed application and subsequent selection by a review committee. Each nominee must be a first or second term legislator, having served no more than four years in the legislature.
The State Legislative Leaders Foundation is a national, nonprofit, nonpartisan independent organization which will provide a scholarship to cover all program costs for those legislators selected to attend. Nominees who are ultimately accepted to this program will be notified in April.
